Stages Kitchen & Bar - DoubleTree by Hilton West Edmonton

It has the smell of new as you walk through the doors, everything shiny and aglow.  I had no idea that Mayfield Inn had become a DoubleTree by Hilton until I received an invite to a pre-tasting to showcase the new Stages Kitchen & Bar, located within the hotel.

But what about the dinner theatre, I asked, worried about the name being changed.  Not to worry, Mayfield Dinner Theatre has not undergone a name change.  I was happy to hear that the retained the name as it is very much an institution within the city.

After a walk through of the newly-renovated conference rooms, we were seated within the lounge section of Stages Kitchen & Bar, right off the entrance to the hotel. The back end is the restaurant portion, a cosy elegance adorned with artwork showcasing Alberta landscapes, as well as an area where buffet is served if you prefer not to dine a la carte.

At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Willie White, formerly Executive Chef of The Fairmont chain and owner of acclaimed River House Grill in St. Albert. He spoke with gregarious exuberance before every sampling, explaining each dish and asking for feedback throughout the evening.

The menus proudly mention it's culinary philosophy of "Farm to Table" and it's various partners such as Smoking Elk Ranch, Alberta Bison Ranch, Sun Works Organic Farm, Sylvan Star Cheese and Sunny View Farms.  A look through the beverage menu surprises many of us as it carries a good quantity of Canadian wines and beers.

Whether you are taking in a show at the theatre, staying at the hotel or merely looking for a different place to eat, Stages Kitchen & Bar will delight your senses, along with the hospitality service one expects from the Hilton brand.
