And I felt like life was getting a bit boring around here...

You used to be able to see the front of my house.

That's what I told my hubby just a short while ago. HA!

Crazy thunderstorm here last night has broken my 50+yr old spruce tree in half, leaving a big mess. The tree ripped out a vent in the roof leaving a hole and mangled all my eavestroughs.

My front door & Side view of my house.

My cat was a bit perplexed about it all. Entry through my front door will be non-existent the next while. Sigh, I don't think the newspaper or mail delivery is going to be so easy, huh?

If I paid you 5 cents to pick up every pinecone from my front lawn, I'd be bankrupt. Millions of pinecones everywhere. Clean up and repair will be annoying but everyone is safe and sound and that is all that matters. I'm just sad because I really, really LOVED that tree.

Next time I wish for my life to be spiced up, I'll eat some hot salsa or buy some spicy peanuts. Yeah.

  1. Just think of all the firewood you'll have!

I was at Capital Ex when the storm started. So many people ran at full tilt for shelter! And driving home in areas with no streetlights was an adventure too.

  2. O wow... just lucky that it didn't fall flat onto the house! I had something like this once when I was living in a little old house. There was a huge oaktree across the house that fell over during a huge thunderstorm. If it had toppled slightly different it would have destroyed my house and me in it! Good luck with clearing up all the mess

  3. Wow, that really was a rip snortin storm. We had a big branch rip from our 50 year old tree by the garage...no damage to the garage. We noticed many trees down in the city on Sunday morn especially at Emily Murphy Park! Yikes.

  4. I also have a bunch of super old trees in my front yard that have come down this way in the past. Luckily none did this past weekend, but I am always fearful when we get a storm like that. Old trees are gorgeous, but scary when they fall on your equally or more old house!

  5. Yikes. It broke my gate. Thank god my apple tree didn't meet the same fate as your tree. Crap that sucks.

  6. Yowza ... that's a tree! My husband and I were at Heritage Days when the storm came and got absolutely drenched. Luckily, we're on the outskirts of Edmonton, we didn't have any damage at the house. It sure made a mess of the city!

Hopefully your cat's world has order back in it now. :-)

  7. I'm still sad that the tree is gone. The front of my house does not look the same at all.

The tree was such a focal point that I've had so many people tell me that they didn't realize the color of my house was white until now. haha.
